Original painting by Gale Frost, who started and ran the Minnesota State Fair History Center, which was originally housed in a couple of vintage passenger train cars at the north end of the fair in Heritage Square before the new History Building was built to house the collection.
This painting commemorates Captain Walter’s blimp-shaped hot air balloon that was shot down burning at the MN State Fair September 11, 1936.
24” x 24”, acrylic on Masonite (painted on the rough side). The second photo is from 2008 when it was hanging in the original train car history museum.
